With all of the daily demands placed upon women today, maintaining fitness can be a challenge. At Isis Athletics, we hope to provide you with many tips and programs to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and promote overall fitness.

The general guideline for maintaining a basic level of healthy fitness is to get twenty to thirty minutes of aerobic activity in at least three times a week. For more optimal health benefits, following a program that allows for an hour of aerobic activities four to five times a week is best.

Isis Athletics encourages all women to reach and maintain a healthy level of activity. Doing so not only enhances the way we feel overall, but provides for more energy and perhaps helps us to live longer. The merits of regular physical activity — from preventing chronic health conditions to promoting weight loss and better sleep — are hard to ignore.

Exercise improves our mood by stimulating various brain chemicals that leave us feeling happier and more relaxed than before working out.

Regular physical activity can help prevent, or manage, high blood pressure. Benefits to cholesterol levels are realized as well. This packed double punch helps to keep blood flowing smoothly in our arteries by preventing plaque buildup. Regular physical activity can also help in the prevention of type two diabetes, osteoporosis and certain types of cancers.

As women, we are all concerned with weight on some level. Regular exercise burns calories, stimulates our metabolism and makes it easier to keep our weight under control. Simple changes in daily lifestyle such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work will help in getting started with attaining a lifestyle that is fitness focused.

Because regular physical activity delivers oxygen and nutrients to our muscles and tissues, our entire cardiovascular system benefits. When our heart and lungs work more efficiently, we naturally have more energy. Breathing easier as a result of regular exercise means we have more energy to devote to the things we enjoy.

We all know that a good night’s sleep is mandatory for an overall sense of well being. It has also been proven to increase our concentration and productivity. Physical activity can sometimes be the key to better sleep as it can help us to fall asleep faster and deepen the sleep we enjoy. If you are stimulated by a workout, be careful to not exercise too late in the day as this can be counter-productive and keep you from getting to sleep at a decent time.

Finally, exercise can be fun! It has been proven that women who exercise with friends tend to work out for longer periods of time and more often. This is where Isis Athletics can really help.
